Today we announced the launch of our latest driving safety app, Mojo – an app that rewards distraction-free driving. The iOS app is available for download today from the Apple App Store. The Android version will be released later this month.
ABOUT THE APP
Mojo provides concrete feedback and incentives to help users reduce distracted driving. The app provides an overall “Mojo Score” which characterizes how distracted a user is while driving. The app applies best practices from game design and behavioral science by allowing users to compete on a leaderboard against their friends, rack up levels and earn spins on the prize wheel for distraction-free driving.
The app runs in the background on a driver’s phone and uses technology to identify when a user is the driver in a car. The app then uses sensor-based algorithms to capture and break down distracted driving into three categories: swiping & typing, handheld calls and handsfree calls.
“We know that people want to be better drivers. They tell us so! As a matter of fact, data shows that most people think they already are good drivers, even though 71% of them text and drive,” said Scott Griffith, co-founder and CEO of TrueMotion. “The truth is, their intention is to do the right thing. That’s why we created MOJO – to help them do even better, and recognize their efforts along the way.”
CHANGING BEHAVIOR FOR GOOD
According to positive psychology research, people love to make progress. Small actions and goals give users lots of opportunities to make progress. Chunking what you want to accomplish into small manageable bites is the easiest way to form new habits. And rewarding that new behavior keeps people going.
“Through the app we give people one small doable action – drive distraction free – put down the phone. Stop texting and driving. Once you’ve done so, we recognize and reward that behavior and progress,” says Rafi Finegold, VP of Product at TrueMotion. “Our brains love rewards. And as such we built a ‘gamified’ driving app that does just that.”
Some Mojo features that are built to drive behavior change, are:
As a company, we are focused on using data to drive societal change – to impart that ending distracted driving is everyone’s responsibility – from new to seasoned drivers, commercial or professional drivers, insurers, app makers and so on. Give the app a try to see how technology can free the roads from distracted driving and make you a better driver too!
